Aggregated balance sheets of mutual funds other than money market funds and of investment companies
This section presents balance sheets with the main items of the portfolio of collective investment institutions, i.e. mutual funds regulated by Law 3283/2004, portfolio investment companies (PICs) regulated by Law 3371/2005, and real estate investment companies (REICs) regulated by Law 778/1999. The data do not include money market funds, since these are included in the monetary financial institutions sector. Moreover, the mutual funds data of the Social Insurance Mutual Fund Management Company are presented separately and are not included in the grand total of all mutual funds as shares of these funds can only be purchased by social security organisations and not by the public. Thus, their accounts are incorporated in the sector of ‘General Government’ (S.13 in the European System of Accounts) and, in particular, in the sub-sector of ‘Social security funds’ (S.1314) and not in the sub-sector of ‘Other financial intermediaries’ (S.123) of the sector of ‘Financial corporations’ (S.12).
The Bank of Greece started collecting mutual funds’ data in November 2001 in accordance with the Bank of Greece Governor’s Act 2482/10.10.2001. As of October 2011, the data collection scheme has changed to a security-by-security reporting approach in accordance with the Bank of Greece Governor’s Act 2642/16.05.2011. Investment companies provide statistical information since September 2002 in accordance with the Bank of Greece Governor’s Act 2498/ 28.5.2002.
It should be noted that the data on mutual funds that invest in other funds (funds of funds) are not presented as a separate category but are incorporated according to their investment policy in the relevant sub-category of mutual funds.
