Bank credit and deposits: November 2021

  • The annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic economy stood at 12.2% in November 2021, compared with 12.4% in the previous month.
  • The annual growth rate of total deposits stood at 9.3%, compared with 10.1% in the previous month.
  • Deposits placed by the private sector increased by €1,833 million in November 2021, compared with an increase of €11 million in the previous month.


Ι. Credit to the domestic economy


Τhe monthly net flow of total credit was positive by €1,633 million in November 2021, compared with a positive net flow of €1,239 million in the previous month.

Ι.1 Credit to the general government

In November 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to the general government was positive by €1,163 million, compared with a positive net flow of €1,281 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 43.3% from 46.2% in the previous month.

Ι.2 Credit to the private sector

In November 2021, the annual growth rate of credit to the private sector increased to 1.1% compared with 0.9% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of credit was positive by €470 million, compared with a negative net flow of €42 million in the previous month.

Ι.2.1 Credit to corporations

In November 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to corporations was positive by €538 million, compared with a positive net flow of €148 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 4.0%, from 3.8% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial corporations (NFCs) increased to 3.2% from 3.0% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was positive by €437 million, compared with a positive net flow of €215 million in the previous month. The annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased to 13.1% from 12.6% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was positive by €101 million, compared with a negative net flow of €67 million in the previous month.


Ι.2.2 Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships

In November 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was positive by €7 million, compared with a negative net flow of €73 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 1.5% from 2.0% in the previous month.


Ι.2.3 Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions

In November 2021, the monthly net flow of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative by €76 million, compared with a negative net flow of €117 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -2.3%, from -2.5% in the previous month.


ΙΙ. Deposits by the domestic economy with the domestic credit institutions


Τhe monthly net flow of total deposits was positive by €1,668 million, compared with a positive net flow of €430 million in October 2021.

ΙΙ.1 Deposits placed by the general government

In November 2021, deposits placed by the general government decreased by €164 million, compared with an increase of €419 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -8.8%, compared with -11.0% in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2       Deposits placed by the private sector

In November 2021, deposits placed by the private sector increased by €1,833 million, compared with an increase of €11 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 10.4% from 11.5% in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2.1 Corporate deposits

In November 2021, corporate deposits increased by €2,057 million, compared with a decrease of €454 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 20.4% from 21.0% in the previous month. In particular, deposits from NFCs increased by €2,078 million, against a decrease of €563 million in the previous month. Deposits placed by insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries decreased by €22 million, compared with an increase of €109 million in the previous month.



ΙΙ.2.2 Deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions

In November 2021, deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions decreased by €224 million, compared with an increase of €465 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 7.5% from 8.8% in the previous month.

  1. The general government includes central government, local government and social security funds.
  2. Deposits include repos.
  3. The Bank of Greece is not included in domestic credit institutions.
