Exchange rates for transactions

Foreign exchange rates for Bank of Greece transactions with retail customers, banks and bureaux de change.

The Bank of Greece buys/sells foreign banknotes from/to retail customers and other banks and buys foreign banknotes from bureaux de change. Transactions with retail customers are carried out across the Bank’s branch network (excluding its Head Office, local Outlets and the Ioannina Branch). Transactions with other banks and bureaux de change are carried out at the Bank’s Head Office and across its branch network (excluding local Outlets and the Ioannina Branch).

Such transactions are priced at the foreign exchange and foreign banknote rates vis-à-vis the euro, released daily by the Bank of Greece.

This release refers to nine currencies and indicates the exchange rates at which the Bank of Greece:
1. buys/sells foreign banknotes up to the equivalent of €10,000 from/to retail customers;
2. buys/sells foreign banknotes up to the equivalent of €50,000 from/to other banks; and
3. buys foreign banknotes up to the equivalent of €5,000 from bureaux de change.

Transactions for amounts in excess of these ceilings are carried out following consultation with the relevant Service of the Bank’s Financial Operations Department.
