The Bank of Greece Social Media Policy

Welcome to our Social Media Terms of Use.

Purpose and content

The Bank of Greece (the Bank) uses Social Media to share information and communicate with the public and all interested parties on issues concerning the role, competences, functions and activities of both the Bank and the Eurosystem. Social Media complement other public information channels provided by the Bank.

Communication

The Bank shall not respond to individual comments and messages on Social Media, unless there is good reason to do so. The Bank's Social Media shall not be used to provide personal assistance to individual users/followers.

The public is encouraged to communicate with the Bank by:

  • filling in a contact form;
  • calling on +30 210 320 1111;
  • visiting the Bank’s Head Office (21 El. Venizelou, 10250, Athens, Greece) or a branch of the Bank's network.

Account administrator

The Communications Unit is the administrator of the Bank's Social Media accounts. 

Reproduction of content

Reproduction of content (text, photos, videos, figures etc.) posted on the Bank's Social Media is permitted, provided that the source is acknowledged.

Reposting (retweeting, sharing, etc.) content from the Bank’s Social Media is encouraged, provided that any alteration, modification or amendment is not at odds with the purpose of the original post.

When using a hyperlink to the Bank's website, you must not give the impression or in any way imply that hyperlinked content is part of a third-party webpage (i.e. that is has been created by someone else), and make sure to avoid all likelihood of confusion. In this context, framing or presenting the Bank of Greece’s website along with other webpages on the same screen is prohibited.

Third-party content

For informational reasons or in favour of public interest, as appropriate, the Bank may post/share content produced by a third party. In this case, the Bank's intervention shall be limited to confirming the source’s credibility. Information included in referenced third-party webpages does not necessarily reflect the Bank's views.

In addition, the Bank shall not be held accountable for opinions, comments and views not posted by the Bank itself, but rather posted/expressed by the Bank’s Social Media users, or for concerns raised by third parties.

Users code of conduct

The Bank expects users to remain civil, courteous and respectful in their communication with the Bank and other users, when posting comments or expressing their views in the Bank's Social Media.

Insults, threats, profane language or any behaviour in violation of human dignity and institutional integrity, human rights, as well as the principles of freedom and equality shall not be tolerated.

Specifically, it is prohibited to post: 1) abusive or offensive remarks and comments; 2) content promoting any kind of discrimination; 3) content encouraging violence and illegal activities; 4) “sensitive” information that might compromise the safety or security of public systems; 5) advertising or promotional material for services and products; 6) pornographic content; 7) any material in violation of intellectual property legislation; 8) content that includes sensitive personal information.

Moreover, it is recommended to avoid spamming and posting comments not related to the principal topic or aiming at disrupting the discussion.

The Bank reserves the right to remove any content in violation of the above. In addition, the Bank reserves the right to suspend or block any user in violation of the above, as well as to report the user to the respective platform administrators and/or competent Authorities.

Terms of Use and Personal Data Protection

The Bank's Social Media are governed by the terms of use and the personal data protection policy of the respective Social Media platforms.

The Terms of Use on the Bank of Greece official website (www.bankofgreece.gr) and its Privacy Policy shall apply.

In order to ensure personal data protection, users are requested to avoid posting personal information (e.g. bank account or credit card details, mobile phone numbers, etc.). 

The Bank reserves the right to update its Social Media Policy at any time, in order to ensure compliance with the purposes of the Bank's webpages
