Bank of Greece, DIESOI

The Historical Archives of the Bank of Greece, in the context of the Interdisciplinary Seminar in Economic History (DIESOI), jointly organised with the Athens University of Economics and Business and Panteion University, invite you to the lecture entitled:

“The last resort: railways, aviation, energy, and the State in Greece, in the great balancing act between the private and public sectors”

Speaker: Achilleas Chekimoglou, writer-journalist

A few words on the topic:

The speaker will discuss how railways, aviation and energy in Greece were created and evolved around the great balancing act between the private and public sectors. In his presentation, he will analyse the role of the Greek State as a catalyst for private sector opportunities, but also as provider of last resort support in market failures, through the business examples of railways, aviation, and energy, as they unfolded in 20th century Greece, between regulation and deregulation.

The sessions are held between 17:00-19:00 at the Museum of the Bank of Greece, 3, Amerikis Street, Athens, and are open to the public, without requiring prior registration. The lecture will be delivered in Greek.

The complete programme of upcoming lectures is available on the website of the Interdisciplinary Seminar in Economic History.
