Interdisciplinary Seminar in Economic History: Economic History and Bioarcheology
25/04/2023 (Seminars)
Bank of Greece, DIESOI
The Historical Archives of the Bank of Greece, in the context of the Interdisciplinary Seminar in Economic History (DIESOI), jointly organised with the Athens University of Economics and Business and Panteion University, invite you to the lecture entitled:
"Combining Economic History and Bioarcheology: New evidence on welfare, nutrition, state capability and violence during the first millennia of human history"
Speaker: Jörg Baten (University of Tuebingen)
A few words on the topic:
The speaker will present exciting evidence drawn from almost 20,000 ancient skeletons, used to reveal just how healthy and how violent early civilisations were. These bioarchaeological sources allow us to trace very long-term economic history and understand the economic situation of early societies. This is the first study to explore the welfare effects of the rise of early states in the Middle East, Europe and China.
The sessions will be held at the Museum of the Bank of Greece, at 3, Amerikis Street, Athens, and are open to the public, without requiring prior registration. Τhis seminar will be held in English.
The complete programme of upcoming lectures is available on the website of the Interdisciplinary Seminar in Economic History.
