Bank of Greece, DIESOI
The Historical Archives of the Bank of Greece, in the context of the Interdisciplinary Seminar in Economic History, jointly organised with the Athens University of Economics and Business and Panteion University, invite you to the lecture entitled:
“Economic and geographic factors behind the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), 1871-1938”
Speaker: Stelios Panagiotidis (Athens University of Economics and Business)
A few words on the topic:
The aim of the presentation is to trace the geographic and economic foundations of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) back to the late-19th century (1871-1914). As part of the archival research and innovation, the rationale of the presentation draws heavily upon (and attempts to rejuvenate) an earlier discussion of the 1920s and 1930s, such as the one arising from the works of economic geographer Richard Hartshorne who was among the first to claim that the Franco-German steelworks of the Ruhr-Lorraine is essentially a single entity, divided, however, by national borders. It is noted that the presentation is based on the lecturer’s PhD dissertation and summarises its progress.
The sessions are held between 17:00-19:00 at the Museum of the Bank of Greece, at 3 Amerikis Street, Athens, and are open to the public, without requiring prior registration. The lecture will be delivered in Greek.
The complete programme of upcoming lectures is available on the website of the Interdisciplinary Seminar in Economic History.
