Bank of Greece, DIESOI
The Historical Archives of the Bank of Greece, in the context of the Interdisciplinary Seminar in Economic History, jointly organised with the Athens University of Economics and Business and Panteion University, invite you to the lecture entitled:
“Boundary-spanning leadership and the emergence of local cooperation against the odds”
Speaker: Kira Gartzou-Katsouyanni (London School of Economics)
A few words on the topic:
Fostering cooperation among local leaders can generate economic benefits. However, relatively little is known about how to induce local cooperation in low-trust, institutionally weak areas. This research, based on four pairs of matching high- and low-cooperation case studies in the Greek wine, spice, niche tourism, and mass tourism sectors, argues that leadership by a small group of actors crucially contributes to the emergence of inter-firm cooperation in places lacking readily available, inherited associational capacities in production. Moreover, Gartzou-Katsouyanni examines which kinds of actors are most likely to assume the role of local leaders and concludes that they are usually -in some sense- outsiders to the local area in question.
The sessions are held between 17:00-19:00 at the Museum of the Bank of Greece, 3, Amerikis Street, Athens, and are open to the public, without requiring prior registration. The lecture will be delivered in English.
The complete programme of upcoming lectures is available on the website of the Interdisciplinary Seminar in Economic History.
