Proposal of the Bank of Greece's General Council for the appointment of a Deputy Governor

In view of the expiring term-of-office of Deputy Governor Mr
Panayotis-Aristidis Thomopoulos on 26.2.2009, the General Council of the Bank of
Greece decided unanimously to propose to the Cabinet the appointment of Mr
Ioannis Papadakis for the position of Deputy Governor.
Mr Ioannis Papadakis has been a member of the Monetary Policy
Council of the Bank of Greece since 5.4.2007, and Associate Professor of
Economics at the Athens University. At various times in the past, he has served
as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers of the Ministry of National
Economy, Member of the EC Monetary Committee, Alternate Executive Director of
the International Monetary Fund, and Alternate Director of the Foundation for
Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE). He has also been a member of the
Advisory Council of the Hellenic Bank Association, Economic Adviser of Geniki
Bank and Economic Adviser of Emporiki Bank. Mr Papadakis is an expert on
monetary policy, central banking, State-banking sector relations, bank
governance and management, banking supervision, and international banking
markets.
