Bank credit to the domestic private sector: August 2012

The annual growth rate of total credit to the domestic private sector stood at -4.8% in August 2012, compared with -4.9% in July 2012. In August 2012 the net flow of total credit to the domestic private sector was negative, amounting to EUR 1,046 million (August 2011: negative net flow of EUR 1,310 million).

Credit to enterprises

The net flow of credit to enterprises in August 2012 was negative, amounting to EUR 657 million (August 2011: negative net flow of EUR 690 million) and the annual growth rate of credit stood at -5.3%, unchanged from the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial enterprises was less negative at -4.6% in August 2012, from -5.1% in the previous month, while the annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries was more negative at -17.0% in August 2012, from -8.0% in July 2012.

Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships

The net flow of credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was negative amounting to EUR 42 million (August 2011: negative net flow of EUR 143 million) and the annual rate of change of credit was less negative than in the previous month (August 2012: -4.7%, July 2012: -5.3%).

Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions

In August 2012, the net flow of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative, amounting to EUR 347 million (August 2011: negative net flow of EUR 476 million). As a result, the annual growth rate of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions stood at -4.2% in August 2012, from -4.3% in July 2012.
