Central government net borrowing requirement on a cash basis: January-August 2026

In January-August 2026, the central government cash balance recorded a deficit of €4,625 million, compared to a surplus of €1,723 million in the same period of 2025. During this period, ordinary budget revenue amounted to €49,207 million, compared to €46,697 million in the corresponding period of last year. Ordinary budget expenditure amounted to €47,313 million, from €42,189 million in January-August 2025.
