The Bank of Greece alerts the public about internet scams using the name and picture of Governor Yannis Stournaras.
Specifically, false articles, fake profiles and misleading advertisements feature Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras engaging in debates and heated arguments with popular journalists.
The same scenario of a supposed altercation between a central bank governor and a popular journalist has also been used in other Eurosystem countries.

Another set of false and misleading advertisements impersonate Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras recommending the use of an online investment platform.
Fraudsters deploy false articles, fake profiles and misleading advertisements on social media using AI-generated images. The relevant posts redirect users to unreliable investment or crypto platforms.
