The Bank of Greece launches its Virtual Gallery
11/06/2009 - Press Releases
The Bank of Greece is pleased to announce the launching of
its Virtual Gallery, where paintings and prints from its collections can be
viewed online.
Since its establishment in 1928, the Bank has put together
important collections of paintings, sculptures, prints, mosaics, works in
stained glass, coins, medals, etc., as part of its commitment to the
preservation of the nation’s cultural heritage for future generations. Certain
items from these collections have been the object of scholarly study, while
numerous others have been exhibited in Greece and abroad.
Taking advantage of the possibilities offered by modern
technology, the Bank has now put a representative sample of its art collection
online, thus making it accessible to a much wider audience.
The Virtual Gallery features 169 paintings and prints from
the 19th and 20th centuries, by such artists as Volanakis, Gysis, Iakovidis,
Maleas, Triantafyllidis, Fokas, Tsarouchis, Kosmadopoulos, Prekas, Tetsis, etc.,
with detailed information and expert commentaries, as well as artist biographies,
in Greek and English.
An innovative technique enables an interactive virtual walk
through a series of exhibition rooms, inspired from the actual premises of the
Bank’s Head Office on 21 El. Venizelou Avenue in Athens. All of the works can be
viewed in full-screen mode and zoomed into for high-resolution detail.
Fully aware of its responsibility in promoting the riches of
Greek artistic creation, the Bank of Greece proudly invites you to visit its
Virtual Gallery at:
