Statement by Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras

Following
the announcement by the Greek Government Spokesman, the Governor of the Bank of
Greece, Yannis Stournaras, made the following statement:
“My
nomination by the Prime Minister and the Government for a third consecutive
term as Bank of Greece Governor is a profound honour and a pledge of continued
confidence.
I
would like to affirm that I shall remain committed to the primary mandate of
this important institution, which in 2028 will be celebrating its centenary,
having played a pivotal and creative role in economic developments, i.e. in
safeguarding monetary and financial stability, thereby contributing to economic
growth for the benefit of the country and Greek citizens.”
In
accordance with the Statute of the Bank of Greece, the Bank’s General Council
will be convoked in the coming days to formulate its proposal to the Cabinet.
