Statistics on Pension Funds: Q2 2025

- Total assets of pension funds increased by 3.8% to €2,639 million at the end of the second quarter of 2025 from €2,543 million in the previous quarter.
Total assets of compulsory and non-compulsory occupational pension funds (“pension funds”) increased by €96 million compared with the previous quarter and stood at €2,639 million in the second quarter of 2025.
In further detail, the overall deposits of pension funds increased by 25 million to €103 million at the end of the second quarter of 2025. Deposits’ share in total assets increased to 3.9% compared with 3.1% in the previous quarter.
Total holdings of debt securities increased to €1,164 million at the end of the second quarter of 2025, from €1,148 million in the previous quarter. This development is mainly due to net purchases of foreign bonds, partially offset by net sales of domestic bonds. Debt securities’ share decreased to 44.1% of total assets at the end of the second quarter of 2025, compared with 45.1% in the previous quarter.
Total holdings of investment fund shares increased to €902 million at the end of the second quarter of 2025, from €843 million in the previous quarter. The increase in these holdings is mainly due to net purchases of foreign shares and an increase in domestic and foreign shares’ prices. Investment fund holdings’ share in total assets increased to 34.2%, compared with 33.2% in the previous quarter.
Equity holdings remained unchanged at €423 million at the end of the second quarter of 2025. The net sales of domestic and foreign shares were totally offset by an overall increase in shares’ prices. The share of equity in total assets decreased to 16.0% from 16.6% in the previous quarter.
