Bank credit to the domestic private sector: March 2012

The annual growth rate of total credit granted to the domestic private sector decreased further to -4.0% in March 2012 from -3.8% in the previous month. The net flow of total credit to the domestic private sector was negative amounting to EUR 1,360 million (March 2011: negative net flow of EUR 722 million).
Credit to enterprises
The net flow of credit to enterprises in March 2012 was negative, amounting to EUR 979 million (March 2011: negative net flow of EUR 310 million) and the annual growth rate of credit decreased to -3.3% from -2.7% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial enterprises stood at -3.3% in March 2012, unchanged from the previous month and the annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries, which includes significant intra-group transactions, decreased to -4.1% in March 2012 from 7.1% in February 2012.
Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships
The net flow of credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was positive amounting to EUR 26 million (March 2011: negative net flow of EUR 86 million) and the annual rate of change of credit increased to -7.2% in March 2012 from -7.8% in the previous month, remaining, however, at negative level.
Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions
In March 2012, the net flow of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative, amounting to EUR 406 million (March 2011: negative net flow of EUR 326 million). As a result, the annual growth rate of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions stood at -4.4% in March 2012 from -4.3%, in February 2012.
