Bank credit to the domestic private sector: May 2013

The annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic private sector stood at -3.7% in May 2013, from -3.4% in the previous month. The net flow of total credit to the domestic private sector was negative, amounting to EUR 1,551 million (May 2012: negative net flow of EUR 970 million).
Credit to enterprises
The net flow of credit to enterprises, in May 2013, was negative, amounting to EUR 1,151 million (May 2012: negative net flow of EUR 574 million), and the annual growth rate of credit stood at -3.9%, compared with -3.4% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial corporations stood at -3.4%, from -3.0% in the previous month, while the net flow of credit was negative and equal to EUR 984 million (May 2012: negative net flow of EUR 519 million). The annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries stood at -10.3% in May 2013, from -8.7% in April 2013.
Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships
The net flow of credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was positive, amounting to EUR 54 million (May 2012: negative net flow of EUR 25 million) and its annual rate of change stood at -0.9%, from -1.5% in April 2013.
Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions
In May 2013, the net flow of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative, amounting to EUR 455 million (May 2012: negative net flow of EUR 371 million), and its annual growth rate stood at -3.8%, compared with -3.7% in April 2013.
