Bank credit to the domestic private sector: December 2013

The annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic private sector, in December 2013, stood at -3.9%, from -3.8% in the previous month. The net flow of total credit to the domestic private sector was negative, amounting to EUR 173 million (December 2012: negative net flow of EUR 195 million).

Credit to corporations

The net flow of credit to corporations, in December 2013, was negative, amounting to EUR 110 million (December 2012: negative net flow of EUR 34 million), and the annual growth rate of credit stood at -4.9 %, compared with -4.7% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial corporations stood at -5.0%, compared with -4.6% in the previous month, while the net flow of credit to non-financial corporations was negative and equal to EUR 91 million (December 2012: positive net flow of EUR 192 million). The annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries stood at -3.3% in December 2013, compared with -6.4% in November 2013.

Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships

The net flow of credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was positive, amounting to EUR 76 million in December 2013 (December 2012: negative net flow of EUR 41 million) and its annual growth rate stood at 0.9%, compared with 0.0% in the previous month.

Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions

In December 2013, the net flow of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative, amounting to EUR 139 million, (December 2012: negative net flow of EUR 120 million) and its annual growth rate stood at -3.5%, unchanged from the previous month.
