Bank credit to the domestic private sector: February 2013

The annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic private sector stood at -3.9% in February 2013, compared with -4.0% in the previous month. The net flow of total credit to the domestic private sector was negative, amounting to EUR 949 million (February 2012: negative net flow of EUR 1,188 million).
Credit to enterprises
The net flow of credit to enterprises, in February 2013, was negative, amounting to EUR 439 million (February 2012: negative net flow of EUR 695 million), and the annual growth rate of credit stood at -4.3% compared with -4.4% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial corporations stood at -2.7% from -2.6% in the previous month, while the net flow of credit was negative and equal to EUR 518 million (February 2012: negative net flow of EUR 438 million). The annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries was less negative at -22.9% in February 2013, from -25.9% in January 2013.
Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships
The net flow of credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was negative, amounting to EUR 29 million (February 2012: negative net flow of EUR 109 million) and its annual rate of change was less negative at -1.9%, from -2.4% in January 2013.
Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions
In February 2013, the net flow of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative, amounting to EUR 481 million (February 2012: negative net flow of EUR 383 million), and its annual growth rate stood at -3.8%, compared with -3.7% in January 2013.
