In further detail, the overall deposits of pension funds remained almost unchanged at €65 million at the end of the first quarter of 2024. Deposits’ share in total assets stood at 2.8%. Total holdings of debt securities depicted a small increase of €5 million and stood at €1,061 million in the first quarter of 2024, as net purchases of domestic securities were counter-balanced by net sales of foreign securities. Total holdings of investment fund shares increased to €728 million compared to €681 million in the previous quarter. The increase of these holdings is mainly due to an increase in the prices of both other euro area and domestic investment fund shares.

Equity holdings increased to €379 million in the first quarter of 2024 compared with €334 million in the previous quarter, mainly due to an increase in the prices of foreign shares. The share of equity in total assets increased to 16.6% compared with 15.2% in the previous quarter.
