Since Greece joined the euro area, its reserve assets, according to the ECB’s definition, comprise only monetary gold; the reserve position in the International Monetary Fund (IMF); special drawing rights; and Bank of Greece claims on of non-euro area residents denominated in foreign currency.
Accordingly, excluded from reserve assets are: euro-denominated claims on non-euro area residents;, claims on residents of other euro area countries denominated in euro or foreign currency; and the Bank of Greece participation in the capital and reserves of the ECB.
