Issac Sabethai, Anil Markandya, President of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), Scientific Director of the Basque Centre for Climate Change

Isaac SABETHAI: He was born in Trikala (Greece) in 1950. He studied economics in the USA (at Wesleyan and at Brown University). He has been working at the Bank of Greece since 1976. Since 2001 he has been serving as director of the bank's Economic Research Department and editor of the Report of the Governor and the Monetary Policy Report. Back in 1977 he served on the Greek team that took part in the technical negotiations in preparation of Greek accession to the European Communities. He was a member of the Council of Employ-ment and Social Security Experts (2001-2003). He has also been a member of Working Party No. 1 (on Macroeconomic and Structural Policy Analysis) of OECD's Economic Policy Committee. He is now a member of the Board of Di-rectors of IOBE (the Greek Foundation for Economic and Industrial Re-search).He has published papers concerning the brain drain in Greece (1976); the effects of Greece's accession to the European Communities on the free movement of labor and on social policy (1981); restrictions on the right to strike in Greece (1982); the Greek labor market (1997 and 2000); Greece: The Long Process of Economic and Institutional Convergence (2006).
