The Bank of Greece’s actions in the context of the OECD’s “Global Money Week” 2025 awareness-raising campaign

17/03/2025 - Press Releases

- The Bank of Greece is the national coordinator of the Global Money Week

- New social media campaign on cryptocurrencies

- New educational action by the Museum of the Bank of Greece, focusing on the themes "Saving" and "Credit"

Since November 2022, the Bank of Greece has been the national coordinator of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) global awareness-raising campaign “Global Money Week” (GMW) for children and young people, with a focus on financial education.

Actions of the Bank of Greece

- In the coming days, the Communications Unit of the Bank of Greece will launch a social media campaign, targeting mainly young people, which will feature a short video on cryptocurrencies, the risks involved in dealing with them and the potential risks of disinformation from unreliable media sources. The campaign will be supported by relevant information material.

- From Tuesday 18 to Friday 21 March, the Museum of the Bank of Greece will implement a new edutainment action, which will include group tours of the exhibition "Personal Finance", focusing on the themes "Saving" and "Credit". The visitors of the exhibition will then be invited to take on the role of "finfluencer", reproducing the sound and reliable information they have been taught. The relevant action of the Museum mainly targets secondary education students, but also any other group concerned.

- The Museum of the Bank of Greece will send educational material from the “Saving” and “Credit” sections of the exhibition “Personal Finance” to teachers at the e-mail addresses of the country’s schools.

Alongside its own actions, the Bank of Greece, as national coordinator of the GMW, informs financial education stakeholders about this initiative and encourages economic agents and organisations to join in the broader effort to promote financial education, so that citizens can ultimately achieve financial well-being and financial resilience.

GMW2025: Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow

The theme of this year's GMW, which takes place from 17 to 23 March 2025, is "Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow". Developments in digital finance and in the way consumers interact with financial services online, from the emergence of "finfluencers" to the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence, can make it difficult for everyone, especially for young people, to identify reliable information and advice. At the same time, emotions and behavioural biases, such as herd mentality, can lead to poor financial decisions, especially under peer pressure or the influence of social media. In this context, it is crucial that young people develop sound money management skills, recognise emotional triggers and develop a critical eye towards information sources. Strengthening financial literacy can help young people better navigate financial markets, resist temptation and spot biased advice, ultimately leading to smarter financial decisions.

What is the Global Money Week?

The global awareness-raising campaign of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Global Money Week highlights the importance of ensuring that young people, from an early age, are financially aware, and are gradually acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours necessary to make sound financial decisions. Launched in 2012, GMW has been held every March and has reached more than 60 million children and young people in 176 countries worldwide.
