- The annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic economy decreased to 4.9% in January 2026 from 5.4% in the previous month.
- The annual growth rate of total deposits stood at 5.3% in January 2026 from 5.4% in the previous month.
- Deposits placed by the private sector decreased by €5,184 million in January 2026, compared with an increase of €6,326 million in the previous month.
I. Credit to the domestic economy
Τhe monthly net flow of total bank credit was negative by €2,460 million in January 2026, compared with a positive net flow of €4,492 million in the previous month.
Ι.1 Credit to the general government
In January 2026, the monthly net flow of bank credit to the general government was negative by €315 million, compared with a positive net flow of €617 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 0.6% from 1.4% in the previous month.
Ι.2 Credit to the private sector
In January 2026, the annual growth rate of bank credit to the private sector decreased to 7.6% from 7.9% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of credit was negative by €2,144 million, compared with a positive net flow of €3,876 million in the previous month.
Ι.2.1 Credit to corporations
In January 2026, the monthly net flow of bank credit to corporations was negative by €1,975 million, compared with a positive net flow of €3,670 million in the previous month, while the annual growth rate decreased to 10.3% from 10.7% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial corporations (NFCs) decreased to 10.9% from 11.3% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was negative by €1,214 million, compared with a positive net flow of €3,297 million in the previous month. The annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries decreased to 4.6% from 6.6% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was negative by €761 million, compared with a positive net flow of €373 million in the previous month.
Ι.2.2 Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships
In January 2026, the monthly net flow of bank credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was negative by €116 million, compared with a positive net flow of €87 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -1.6% from -1.2% in the previous month.
Ι.2.3 Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions
In January 2026, the monthly net flow of bank credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative by €53 million, compared with a positive net flow of €119 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at 2.5% from 2.2% in the previous month.
II. Deposits by the domestic economy with the domestic credit institutions
In January 2026, the monthly net flow of total deposits was negative by €4,845 million, compared with a positive net flow of €6,020 million in the previous month.
ΙΙ.1 Deposits placed by the general government
In January 2026, deposits placed by the general government increased by €339 million, compared with a decrease of €305 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 11.5% from 13.9% in the previous month.
ΙΙ.2 Deposits placed by the private sector
In January 2026, deposits placed by the private sector decreased by €5,184 million, compared with an increase of €6,326 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at 5.0% from 5.1% in the previous month.
ΙΙ.2.1 Corporate deposits
In January 2026, corporate deposits decreased by €4,429 million, compared with an increase of €3,855 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 9.0% from 9.6% in the previous month. In particular, deposits from NFCs decreased by €4,574 million, against an increase of €4,060 million in the previous month. Deposits placed by insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased by €145 million, compared with a decrease of €205 million in the previous month.
ΙΙ.2.2 Deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions
In January 2026, deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions decreased by €756 million, compared with an increase of €2,471 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at 3.7% from 3.5% in the previous month.

3. The Bank of Greece is not included in domestic credit institutions.
