Bank credit and deposits: March 2026

- The annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic economy stood at 4.4% in March 2026 from 4.2% in the previous month.

- The annual growth rate of total deposits increased to 5.9% in March 2026 from 5.3% in the previous month.

- Deposits placed by the private sector increased by €2,126 million in March 2026, compared with a decrease of €440 million in the previous month.

I. Credit to the domestic economy

Τhe monthly net flow of total bank credit was positive by €3,524 million in March 2026, compared with a negative net flow of €1,686 million in the previous month.

Ι.1 Credit to the general government

In March 2026, the monthly net flow of bank credit to the general government was positive by €1,137 million, compared with a negative net flow of €2,950 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -0.8% from -1.0% in the previous month.

Ι.2 Credit to the private sector

In March 2026, the annual growth rate of bank credit to the private sector stood at 7.6% from 7.4% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of credit was positive by €2,387 million, compared with a positive net flow of €1,264 million in the previous month.

Ι.2.1 Credit to corporations

In March 2026, the monthly net flow of bank credit to corporations was positive by €2,228 million, compared with a positive net flow of €1,243 million in the previous month, while the annual growth rate stood at 10.1% from 9.9% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial corporations (NFCs) stood at 10.4% from 10.3% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was positive by €2,159 million, compared with a positive net flow of €965 million in the previous month. The annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased to 7.4% from 5.8% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was positive by €68 million, compared with a positive net flow of €279 million in the previous month.

Ι.2.2 Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships

In March 2026, the monthly net flow of bank credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was positive by €47 million, compared with a negative net flow of €6 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at -1.5% from -1.8% in the previous month.

Ι.2.3 Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions

In March 2026, the monthly net flow of bank credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was positive by €112 million, compared with a positive net flow of €28 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at 2.7% from 2.6% in the previous month.

II. Deposits by the domestic economy with the domestic credit institutions

In March 2026, the monthly net flow of total deposits was positive by €2,520 million, compared with a negative net flow of €506 million in the previous month.

ΙΙ.1 Deposits placed by the general government

In March 2026, deposits placed by the general government increased by €394 million, compared with a decrease of €66 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 17.4% from -0.8% in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2 Deposits placed by the private sector

In March 2026, deposits placed by the private sector increased by €2,126 million, compared with a decrease of €440 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at 5.4% from 5.6% in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2.1 Corporate deposits

In March 2026, corporate deposits increased by €2,478 million, compared with a decrease of €514 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 10.2% from 10.9% in the previous month. In particular, deposits from NFCs increased by €2,474 million, against a decrease of €824 million in the previous month. Deposits placed by insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased by €4 million, compared with an increase of €310 million in the previous month.

ΙΙ.2.2 Deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions

In March 2026, deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions decreased by €352 million, compared with an increase of €74 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate stood at 3.8% from 3.9% in the previous month.

Notes:

1. The general government includes central government, local government and social security funds.

2. Deposits include repos.

3. The Bank of Greece is not included in domestic credit institutions.
