- The annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic economy stood at 7.7% in August 2022, compared with 9.1% in the previous month.
- The annual growth rate of total deposits stood at 5.2% in August 2022, compared with 5.8% in the previous month.
- Deposits placed by the private sector increased by €89 million in August 2022, compared with an increase of €483 million in the previous month.
I. Credit to the domestic economy
Τhe monthly net flow of total credit was negative by €1,580 million in August 2022, compared with a positive net flow of €2,832 million in the previous month.
I.1 Credit to the general government
In August 2022, the monthly net flow of credit to the general government was negative by €1,609 million, compared with a positive net flow of €2,378 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 10.9% from 15.3% in the previous month.
Ι.2 Credit to the private sector
In August 2022, the annual growth rate of credit to the private sector increased to 5.8% from 5.5% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of credit was positive by €29 million, compared with a positive net flow of €454 million in the previous month.
Ι.2.1 Credit to corporations
In August 2022, the monthly net flow of credit to corporations was positive by €182 million, compared with a positive net flow of €608 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 12.3%, from 11.8% in the previous month. In particular, the annual growth rate of credit to non-financial corporations (NFCs) increased to 11.6% from 10.9% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was positive by €209 million, compared with a positive net flow of €470 million in the previous month. The annual growth rate of credit to insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries remained almost unchanged at 19.6% from 19.5% in the previous month; the monthly net flow was negative by €27 million, compared with a positive net flow of €137 million in the previous month.
Ι.2.2 Credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships
In August 2022, the monthly net flow of credit to sole proprietors and unincorporated partnerships was negative by €21 million, compared with a negative net flow of €54 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 0.3% from 0.7% in the previous month.
Ι.2.3 Credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions
In August 2022, the monthly net flow of credit to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative by €132 million, compared with a negative net flow of €99 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate remained unchanged at -2.1%.
II. Deposits by the domestic economy with the domestic credit institutions
In August 2022, the monthly net flow of total deposits was positive by €616 million, compared with a positive net flow of €892 million in July 2022.
ΙΙ.1 Deposits placed by the general government
In August 2022, deposits placed by the general government increased by €527 million, compared with an increase of €408 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 5.6%, compared with 1.3% in the previous month.
ΙΙ.2 Deposits placed by the private sector
In August 2022, deposits placed by the private sector increased by €89 million, compared with an increase of €483 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 5.2% from 6.1% in the previous month.
ΙΙ.2.1 Corporate deposits
In August 2022, corporate deposits decreased by €376 million, compared with a decrease of €304 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate decreased to 7.8% from 12.4% in the previous month. In particular, deposits from NFCs decreased by €412 million, against a decrease of €436 million in the previous month. Deposits placed by insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased by €35 million, compared with an increase of €131 million in the previous month.
ΙΙ.2.2 Deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions
In August 2022, deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions increased by €465 million, compared with an increase of €788 million in the previous month; the annual growth rate increased to 4.4% from 4.1% in the previous month.

1. The general government includes central government, local government and social security funds.

3. The Bank of Greece is not included in domestic credit institutions.
