1st Bank of Greece Workshop on the Economies of
Eastern European & Mediterranean countries
Introduction
The Bank of Greece has taken numerous initiatives aiming at following and analysing economic developments in Eastern European and Mediterranean countries. Among its various initiatives is to host annual workshops, which seek to look deeper into different issues that constitute a matter of concern for the particular economies.
The 1st Annual Workshop, “The Global Financial Crisis and SEE: Lessons for macroeconomic policy and financial stability”, is organized by the Analysis of Economic Developments in Eastern European and Mediterranean Countries Section of Bank of Greece and will be held on 14 May 2010 at the Bank of Greece, 21 E. Venizelos Avenue, 102 50 Athens, Greece.

Objectives
The objective of the Workshop is to study the challenges imposed by the global economic and financial crisis on the economies of the region, particularly with respect to macroeconomic policy and financial stability. It aims at presenting the views of both policy makers and practioners.
The main objectives of the Workshop are the following:

To present the policy makers’ view for macroeconomic policy challenges (e.g. fiscal, monetary and exchange rate policies, exit strategies and ad hoc measures taken during the crisis).

To present the supervisors’ perspective related to financial stability (e.g. threats, supervisory and regulatory policies and their impact, lessons to be learnt)
-
To present market response and commercial banks’ view (e.g. challenges for commercial banks with significant presence in SEE, the role of parent banks, strategy realignment and the way ahead).

Participants
The participants of the 1st Annual Workshop will be representatives of Central Banks and European Commercial Banks as well as experts from the Greek banking sector and international organizations.
