Exhibitions-Actions

The Bank of Greece is actively involved in the promotion of financial literacy through a number of actions, including museum-educational programmes and exhibitions in its Museum.

Given its educational role, the Museum of the Bank of Greece offers guided tours tailored to the needs of the vast majority of its visitors and hosts educational events focused on specific economic topics.

The Museum’s permanent exhibition takes the visitor on a fascinating journey through Greece’s modern economic and monetary history.

Its temporary exhibitions and museum-educational programmes aim to inform and raise visitors’ awareness of topics such as climate change, or to familiarise them with technological advances, such as modern means of payment.

2022

Twenty years after the launch of euro banknotes and coins, this small temporary exhibition focused on the greatest monetary transition ever, i.e. the simultaneous adoption of a new single currency by 12 euro area Member States in 2002 (which led to the creation of one of the major currencies in the world), as well as on the euro banknotes and coins themselves, which tangibly remind us on a daily basis of the freedom, convenience and opportunities that the use of the euro offers today, two decades later.

18/03/22 – today

The educational programme “Green Escape” is carried out in the context of the current temporary exhibition “Economy and Climate – Handle with care”. Inspired by escape rooms, it borrows methods and ideas integrated into museum-educational practice, aiming to provide an overview of the concept of climate change, its causes and repercussions, and in particular its relationship with the global economy, as well as to encourage both the individual and social attitudes and behaviours that are needed for a more sustainable course in the future. It also focuses on the institutional role of central banks and their ability to contribute to tackling the phenomenon.
