The Library of the Bank of Greece creates a series of publications, in which the sources of its collections are organized. The Library's publications are the following:

Bibliographic bulletin

Until 2019, the Library’s Bibliographic Bulletin including all the new acquisitions (books, journals and e-resources) in a given period of time was published every three months both in printed and electronic format.

Since January 2020, the Bibliographic Bulletin changes publication frequency and format: it is uploaded monthly in the Library’s WebPac under Featured lists where the three most recent Bulletins can be found.

In its printed format it has been replaced from the Bibliographic Bulletin: Selections which is a selection of titles of every Bulletin including cover images, full bibliographic data and shelfmarks for each title.

Bibliography

Quarterly publication on an economic, financial or banking topic of current interest that compiles bibliographic references from the Library’s hard copy and electronic collection. The purpose of the publication is to create ready-reference subject research tools which will be utilized by the researcher and every one interested in the topic of each issue.

Beginning from issue no.44/July-September 2017 the publication is bilingual.

On Monday, July 5, 2021 the Library of the Bank of Greece will resume its operations for the general public, after their suspension due to the measures to address the Covid-19 pandemic.

The opening hours are 09:00 - 13:30 during working days. Any interested user will visit the Library by appointment only (telephone: +30-2103202446, +30 210 3202396, +30 210 3202522 or library@bankofgreece.gr, at least one day prior to their visit. Users may also conduct remote search by using theLibrary’s online catalog WebPAC and its discovery tool Summon. During the visit, the use of the library's perconal computers and of personal laptops is permitted (without access to the Bank's network).

The opening hours are 09:00 - 13:30 during working days. Any interested user will visit the Library by appointment only (telephone: +30-2103202446, +30 210 3202396, +30 210 3202522 or library@bankofgreece.gr, at least one day prior to their visit. Users may also conduct remote search by using theLibrary’s online catalog WebPAC and its discovery tool Summon. During the visit, the use of the library's personal computers and of personal laptops is permitted (without access to the Bank's network).

The visit to the Library will be pursuant to the protection measures as defined by the Greek State, regarding the number of visitors and keeping distances. Wearing a protection face mask and use of anticeptic gel are obligatory before the visit.

We inform you that, pursuant to the new measures to address the Covid-19 pandemic, the Library of the Bank of Greece has suspended its operation from Friday 6 November 2020 until further notice. Users may conduct remote research by using the Library’s online catalog WebPAC and the unified tool Summon, as well as contact the Library by e-mail (library@bankofgreece.gr) and/or on the phone (+30 210 3202446, +30 210 3202522, +30 210 3202396).

Pursuant to the new measures to address the Covid-19 pandemic, the Library, the Museum and the Historical Archives of the Bank of Greece have suspended their operations from March 12, 2020 until further notice. All administrative services and operations will run normally. It is reminded that part of the public services may be conducted online, via the website of the Bank of Greece: https://www.bankofgreece.gr.

Bank of Greece at the 85th World Library and Information Congress of the International Federation of Library Associations

Athens is hosting the biggest and most significant library congress in the world and the Bank of Greece is actively contributing to its materialization.

The 85th World Library and Information Congress of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) is held from 24 to 30 August 2019 in Megaron Athens International Congress Center with more than 3,400 delegates from 140 countries. The congress theme is “Libraries: dialogue for change”. The congress is held annually in a different city of the world.

Athens is hosting the biggest and most significant library congress in the world and the Bank of Greece is actively contributing to its materialization.

The 85th World Library and Information Congress of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) is held from 24 to 30 August 2019 in Megaron Athens International Congress Center with more than 3,400 delegates from 140 countries. The congress theme is “Libraries: dialogue for change”. The congress is held annually in a different city of the world.

The official opening of the congress was on Sunday 25 August with the presence of Yannis Stournaras, Governor of Bank of Greece, and Sofia Zacharaki, deputy Minister of Education. The opening ceremony started with greetings from the co-chairs of the National Committee for the Congress, Alexandra Papazoglou, President of the Association of Greek Librarians and Information Scientists, and Filippos Tsimpoglou, General Director of the National Library of Greece. Gloria Perez-Salmeron, President of IFLA, and Gerald Leitner, Secretary General of IFLA, made the opening speeches. Keynote speaker was Lucas Tsoukalis, President of ELIAMEP.

Bank of Greece is among the silver sponsors of the congress, having contributed financially to the opening ceremony, while the Centre for Culture, Research and Documentation (CCRD) of the Bank also designed the congress logo and its style guide, as well as a Calendar for 2020 containing descriptions and photographs from 55 Greek libraries. The Calendar was offered as a present to the delegates.

Since the very beginning, officers from the Bank of Greece Library participated in the organization of the congress. Eva Semertzaki, deputy Director of the CCRD, is one of the IFLA members who had the initial idea that Athens could bid for the organization of the congress, in the face of severe competition from other world cities. On the last day of the congress (30-8-2019), delegates are invited to participate in a library visits program and will have the opportunity to visit the Bank of Greece Library as well.

The visits, under the general title “Library of the Bank of Greece: a financial treasure”, will take place on 19, 21, 26 and 28 February 2019 during the hours 10:30-11:30 and 12:30-13:30.

Delegates’ visit at the Bank of Greece Library in the framework of the 85th IFLA World Library and Information Congress, Athens, 24-30 August 2019

On Friday, August 30, 2019 the Bank of Greece Library welcomed delegates from the 85th World Library and Information Congress of IFLA – International Federation of Library Associations. The congress, which is the most significant in the world of libraries and information, was held in Athens for the first time, at the Megaron Athens International Congress Center from 24 to 30 August 2019.

On Friday, August 30, 2019 the Bank of Greece Library welcomed delegates from the 85th World Library and Information Congress of IFLA – International Federation of Library Associations. The congress, which is the most significant in the world of libraries and information, was held in Athens for the first time, at the Megaron Athens International Congress Center from 24 to 30 August 2019.

The visit to the Bank of Greece Library was made in the framework of a library visits program, which provided for 33 visits in 55 libraries in and out of Attica. The progam was coordinated by Eva Semertzaki, deputy Director of the Centre for Culture, Research and Documentation of the Bank of Greece and also a National Committee member. The Local Library Visit #7 included the Bank of Greece Library and the libraries of the Academy of Athens, as well as the Parnassos Literary Society. The 15 delegates who visited the Bank of Greece Library came from the USA, Belgium, Hungary, Greece, Uganda, Senegal, Germany and the Dominican Republic.

The delegates were guided throughthe Library’s premises and learned about its history, its services to the Bank and general public, the significance of its economic books collection and the information and knowledge resources it provides. Upon a request of a delegate, the officers of CCRD Nikos Dougekos and Effie Panagiotidi, designers of the congress logo and the Calendar 2020, came to the Library and were warmly applauded by the delegates.

More than 3,400 delegates from 140 countries participated in the congress.

90 years of the Bank of Greece Library: historical reference and future challenges

The Library organized a one-day conference celebrating its 90th anniversary at the Head Office of the Bank of Greece, on Thursday 18 January 2018.

Lectures on economics by the Hellenic Economic Library Network (H.E.LI.N).

The Hellenic Economic Library Network (H.E.LI.N) organizes presentations of books on economics published by its members. It aims to promote high quality books on economics and highlight them as a valuable informative tool. Book presentations by H.E.LI.N lie under the “World Book Capital” initiative of UNESCO. Athens was nominated World Book Capital of 2018 on April 23, 2018 with a duration of one year, until April 22, 2019.

Educational visits to the libraries-members of the Hellenic Economic Library Network (H.E.LI.N).

The Library of the Bank of Greece is a founding member of the Hellenic Economic Library Network (H.E.LI.N). In 2017 H.E.LI.N. Organized educational visits to its member libraries. Libraries that participated were: Alpha Bank's Library and Numismatic Collection, the Library of the Center of Planning and Economic Research, the Library and the Information Center of the Athens University of Economics and Business, the Library of the University of Piraeus, the Library and the Museum of the Bank of Greece, the Library and the Historical Archives of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation and the Library and Information Center of the Harokopion University of Athens.

In 2017 the Hellenic Economic Library Network (H.E.LI.N) organized the 2nd round of conferences on economics for libraries.

Open day

On Thursday, 20 October 2016 the library organized an Open Day, aiming to present the wide variety of its collections and to inform the public about its services that are available not only to its employees but also to every interested party.

During the Open Day librarians conducted organized tours for the public and significant publications on economics and the Greek economy as well as the Bank's first publications along with rare publications, were presented. In addition, the numerous electronic resources and new search services that render the Library a pioneer in its sector, were presented.

1st round of lectures on economics for libraries by the Hellenic Economic Library Network (H.E.LI.N).

The Hellenic Economic Library Network (H.E.LI.N), responding to the demand for economic information recorded during the one-day Conference of March 6th, 2015, organized in 2016 the 1st round of lectures on economics for libraries, which comprised ten (10) presentations.

2015

Scientific seminar: “The contribution of economic libraries in research and development”

On March 6th, 2015 the “Hellenic Economic Library Network” (H.E.LI.N) organized in the Main Branch of the Bank of Greece a scientific seminar under the title “The contribution of the economic libraries in research and development”. 231 persons attended the seminar. The seminar's conclusions will assist the Network to plan its future actions.

The report and the statistics of the seminar, as well as the videotaped presentations, slides and pictures are published on the H.E.LI.N website.

Seminar: “The Libraries of the Banks in Greece: cooperation opportunities with other institutions”

On 24 November 2006, a seminar under the title “The Libraries of the Banks in Greece: cooperation opportunities with other institutions” was organized.
