Ο παρών τόμος φιλοδοξεί να καλύψει το κενό της υπάρχουσας βιβλιογραφίας φωτίζοντας τη νομισματική ιστορία των επιμέρους χωρών της Νοτιοανατολικής Ευρώπης και της περιοχής συνολικά.
Η υπάρχουσα βιβλιογραφία της οικονομικής ιστορίας ασχολείται ως επί το πλείστον με τις προηγμένες χώρες της Δυτικής Ευρώπης και τις ΗΠΑ.
Όμως, η νομισματική και οικονομική ιστορία της Νοτιοανατολικής Ευρώπης παραμένει εν πολλοίς ανεξερεύνητη. Ο παρών τόμος φιλοδοξεί να καλύψει αυτό το κενό φωτίζοντας τη νομισματική ιστορία των επιμέρους χωρών της Νοτιοανατολικής Ευρώπης και της περιοχής συνολικά.
Προσφέροντας την παρούσα βάση ιστορικών δεδομένων σε ένα ευρύτερο κοινό, το SEEMHN ελπίζει να κεντρίσει το ενδιαφέρον των ερευνητών ώστε να ερευνήσουν περαιτέρω την οικονομική και νομισματική ιστορία της Νοτιοανατολικής Ευρώπης.
